About Clutch Cards

A personal note from Jamie, the creator

I built Clutch Cards out of my own healing journey — one that taught me something life-changing:
when you understand why something helps regulate your mind or body, it works even better.

That isn’t just my personal experience —
research shows that when people know the science behind a tool, the brain engages differently, making the practice more effective and easier to repeat.
Learning the “why” helps the “how” stick.

And once I started learning, I couldn’t stop. I deep-dived into neuroscience, mindfulness, emotional regulation, trauma responses, breathwork, spirituality, and anything that explained why our minds do what they do. Those tools changed my life in a profound way — not all at once, but moment by moment, breath by breath.

It also became clear that every one of us has the capacity to change our relationship with our thoughts — to become calmer, more mindful, more loving, and more at peace inside ourselves.

But real talk:
I’m someone who likes tangible things.
I’m also stubbornly independent, and when I’m overwhelmed, I don’t want someone talking me down or telling me what to do. I need space. I need a moment. I need something I can reach for that grounds me without asking anything from me.

One day, while I was spiraling at my desk, I noticed something:
I was fidgeting with a plastic business card.

My thoughts were racing, but my hands were busy — and once I caught myself, I redirected my attention to the card.
I focused on the texture, the flex, the smooth edges, the weight of it.
And suddenly, my brain wasn’t racing anymore. It had something safe to anchor to.

It made me wonder:

What if this tactile moment could be combined with an actual tool?
What if someone could carry a grounding practice with them — literally in their pocket?

At the same time, someone I love deeply was struggling with their mental health — and they’re just like me: independent, slow to ask for help, uncomfortable being “talked down” when overwhelmed. I wanted a way to support them in a moment without needing to be physically there, and without them needing to call anyone.

That spark became Clutch Cards.

A simple, tangible, pocket-sized tool you can reach for the second you feel:

• anxiety rising
• anger building
• spiraling thoughts
• overstimulation
• fear
• emotional overwhelm
• or that “I’m losing control” feeling

Each card pulls you out of autopilot and back into your body —
with a grounding technique backed by neuroscience and explained in simple, human terms.

Carry one in your pocket, in your wallet, beside your bed, or in your bag —
or give one to someone you love as a reminder that they’re supported, even when you can’t be there.

But the real purpose goes deeper:

Clutch Cards are about helping you calm down in the moment —
and helping you understand yourself afterward.
It’s not quick-fix wellness.
It’s long-term emotional skill-building.

It’s learning why you react the way you do,
why the tools work, and how to stay connected to the calmest, clearest version of yourself.

Ultimately, Clutch Cards exists for the same reason I created them for myself:

Because everyone deserves to feel safe inside themselves —
and everyone deserves a way back to that safety.

This is just the beginning.
Thank you for being here — truly.
